For those of you who may have studied engineering ( not me)  you know that its very complicated and involves a good deal of attention to details

There are three engineering projects that were accomplished in Chicago  during  the last 100 or so years and I want to list them in ascending order, based  on their degree of difficulty  complexity and ingenuity

The first, was the reversal of the flow of the Chicago River.
As science got better, the second was accomplished, the building of the atomic bomb

Finally the most difficult and daunting  accomplishment

Two vending engineers, Harlan Grabowsky and Gary Tuch  were able by using complex psychological  theorem, to force Bernie Lasinsky to show them his vending receipt, verifying that he indeed sold 6 loads of peanuts  that night at Sox

Getting  Bernie to holler  "Look ! Look!   Look ya fat tub a shit!!   If I tell ya I did 6 loads  I did six loads.  Would I bullshit you?"  was  the easy part  since Bernie was always the first to have a kind word for everyone

Now cut the bullshit

Subject: And Bernie Just Says "I'm Curious"

Submitted for your approval. Circa 1973. The setting is down right field line
at Old Comiskey, where the vendors are waiting for John to give out the items.
Bernie, Tidd and Irving are already there, when Gary Shulman, Nerd and I walked
in the little doorway. At this point, I pressed the record button on my tape
recorder.

As we enter, Nerd is "serenaded" as you will hear. A vendor who went to Sullivan

with Gary and I, Allen Gilbert makes reference to those days when he greets me
as "hi old Division buddy" Division was like a home room where you got all of
your important messages before going off to class.

If you listen carefully, Irving will mumble something about....Jewish Holidays.

There are some comments that sound like they come from Glick & Lane? (Help me
here with your feedback)

But, the funniest part is that Bernie had been bothering Nerd about where his
mother works? To this day, I still don't know what that was about, (maybe Gary
or someone can elaborate for us?) When Nerd asks "What do ya want to know
fer?" Bernie just says "I'm curious" The irony here is that within 3 years
Bernie would again wonder about Nerd and his mom: but this was about "where did
Nerd put da money" after Mark's mom died in '75 from getting the wrong medicine

in the hospital

Another highlight is Johnny Skweres who gets mixed up, and calls me Larry! When

asked who is he talking about, you'll here him say "Reimer or is it
Weimer?" Could it be possible that Johnny was mixing me up with another
friend from Sullivan who vended at that time: Larry Weiner? Guess we'll never

know for sure.

NOTE: Due to poor sound quality, it might be easier to understand everything a
little better if you turn your speakers down which will help eliminate some
distortion

Anyway, enjoy this golden moment from our past
